Stripe Fee Calculator
Calculate what Stripe charges on an online card payment — the 2.9% + $0.30 base rate plus clearly labelled add-ons — and what you actually keep after costs.
Short answer: Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 per successful US online card payment. On a $100 charge the fee is $3.20. International cards, currency conversion and manually entered cards each add a documented surcharge, which you can toggle on above.

How this calculator works
- Base fee = 2.9% × charge amount + $0.30 (standard US online card pricing).
- Add 1.5% if the card was issued outside the US (only when toggled on).
- Add 1% if Stripe converts the charge currency into your payout currency (only when toggled on).
- Add 0.5% for manually entered (keyed-in) card numbers (only when toggled on).
- Payout = charge amount − processing fee.
- Profit = payout − the cost of what you sold. Break-even solves for the lowest charge where profit is not negative.
Worked example
A $100.00 online charge on a US-issued card: fee $3.20 (2.9% = $2.90 plus the $0.30 fixed fee), payout $96.80. The same charge on an international card with currency conversion would carry a 5.4% + $0.30 rate — toggle the options above to see it.
When Stripe is the right fee to pay — and when it is not
Stripe is a payment processor, not a marketplace: the 2.9% + $0.30 buys you the movement of money, fraud tooling and checkout infrastructure, but no audience. If you already have customers — through a client relationship, an email list or your own storefront — processing through Stripe is far cheaper than paying a marketplace 10–20% for the same dollar.
Small charges are disproportionately expensive. The fixed $0.30 makes a $5 digital download cost about 8.9% in fees. Creators selling low-priced items often bundle products or set minimums for exactly this reason — run the numbers above with your real average order size.
This tool is deliberately narrow. It models standard US online card pricing only. ACH (0.8%, $5 cap), buy-now-pay-later methods, Terminal in-person rates, and products like Connect, Billing or Tax have their own published prices and are excluded rather than guessed at.

Assumptions and what this does not include
What the calculation assumes
- US Stripe account on standard pay-as-you-go pricing, online card payments.
- The charge succeeds — no refunds, partial captures or authorization-only flows.
- Add-on rates (international, currency conversion, manual entry) are applied only when you explicitly turn them on.
- Fees are rounded to the nearest cent.
What is not included
- ACH Direct Debit (0.8%, $5 cap), Klarna and other alternative payment methods — different published rates.
- Stripe Connect, Billing, Invoicing, Tax, Radar and other add-on products with their own pricing.
- Custom/enterprise pricing for high-volume businesses.
- The $15 dispute fee and Smart Disputes countered fees.
- In-person (Terminal) rates, which differ from online rates.
