How this calculator works
- Selling fee = 10% × (item price + shipping charged to the buyer).
- No payment processing fee is added under the US fee structure in effect since January 6, 2025.
- Payout = item price + shipping charged − selling fee.
- Profit = payout − item cost − your actual shipping cost (prepaid label or postage you pay).
- Break-even solves for the lowest price where profit is not negative.
Worked example
A $30.00 item with $6.00 shipping charged: the 10% selling fee is $3.60, so the payout is $32.40. After a $10.00 item cost and $4.50 of real postage, profit is $17.90 — a 59.67% margin.
What changed — and why older articles get Mercari wrong
Mercari overhauled its US fees twice in recent years: it dropped selling fees entirely in March 2024, then reintroduced a simplified flat 10% selling fee in January 2025 — this time with no separate payment processing fee. Much of the content ranking for "Mercari fees" still quotes the old 10% + 2.9% + $0.50 stack, which overstates fees by a third or more on a typical sale.
Simplicity is the point. One flat percentage means the effective fee barely moves with price — roughly 10% whether the item sells for $10.00 or $200.00. That is unusual among marketplaces and makes Mercari predictable for pricing.

What is not included
- The buyer-paid 3.6% Buyer Protection fee — it affects the buyer's total, not your payout.
- Instant Pay ($3 per cash-out) and failed-deposit fees ($2) — payout-method choices, not per-sale fees.
- Seller-tier promotions that can temporarily reduce the selling fee for qualifying sellers.
- Shipping label pricing — actual postage cost is an input you control, not a Mercari fee schedule we model.
